PE lessons

Games

We have introduced mixed PE lessons at Old Deer Park. Girls and boys play football, hockey and touch rugby.

Swimming

Swimming lessons take place at Richmond Pools on the Park on Friday mornings. It’s an important part of the curriculum and a compulsory lesson. A note must be sent to the class teacher each time your child is unable to swim for medical reasons. Please make sure all swimwear, including swimsuits and small towels, is clearly marked and kept in school swimming bags. All boys and girls must wear school swimming caps.

A bus will take the children to and from their lessons. Red Class parents, however, are asked to take their children directly to the pool, so that they can help to change them. Other parents are not required at swimming lessons, apart from the parents on the Orange/Yellow Class rota. Parents are asked to sit on the balcony, preferably out of view, so as not to distract the children. Children should not be given food to eat at the pool; drinks and biscuits are provided on their return to school.

The Unicorn Swimming Gala usually takes place one evening at the beginning of the summer term between 6.15 and 8.30 pm. All children from Green Class upwards are expected to attend. A separate Demonstration Gala is held in the summer term for Red, Orange and Yellow Classes during one of the Friday morning sessions.

Sports day

Our sports day and picnic takes place towards the end of the summer term and parents are encouraged to attend – and even participate! A programme of events is published in advance.
