We are delighted to announce that Unicorn is one of just 16 junior schools to be awarded the Primary Geography Quality Mark Award. This is supported by the DCSF through the Action Plan for Geography and seen as a key strategy for raising the quality of geography in primary schools. Miss Reynolds in Orange Class achieved the award in recognition of her commitment to ensuring lively and effective learning in geography, for example through active learning linked to fieldwork, making real links with distant places, involvement in environmental stewardship and pupil enthusiasm for geography.

"A Kew school has set its sights on raising £6,000 to help build a playground 5,700 miles away. After seeing a film about school children in Swaziland and their lack of resources, pupils at Unicorn School decided they wanted to help.
Their project, ‘Operation Justice‘, aims to raise enough money to build them a play area, something the children in the film have never had access to. Unicorn school had a "boxing day" on Tuesday 18 March, to pack and send clothes toys and other donations to the South African school.

“Professional chefs will be visiting two borough schools next week to spend a day teaching children about food, cookery and nutrition. The tasty treat for kids will take place at Tower House School in Richmond and Unicorn School in Kew on Thursday, September 25. This is part of a national programme of food workshops at schools. The organisers, Adopt a School Trust, are hoping that eventually cookery will get on the National Curriculum.
The chefs taking part in the masterclass are all from the Academy of Culinary Arts, whose members include famous names such as Brian Turner, Gary Rhodes, Albert Roux, Michael Roux, Raymond Blanc and Rick Stein. Brian Turner CBE said: "All the chefs who give their time to the programme do so out of a passionate belief that educating children in this valuable skill will benefit all involved and ensure the continued success of our industry."”
