“It`s not just about learning but about having fun.” - A pupil

Unicorn is a parent-owned school founded in Kew by a group of parents and teachers in 1970. They were inspired to create a school that would educate children and simultaneously encourage them to flourish creatively and enjoy the process of learning.
Our ethos
Unicorn School provides a friendly, stimulating and non-denominational atmosphere in which a child’s potential is fostered. We encourage and nurture a child’s development, thereby promoting emotional, physical, aesthetic, social and intellectual growth.
Our aims
Unicorn School seeks to provide each child with a broad and rich educational experience. Our curriculum covers more than just the National Curriculum so that every child can find areas of personal strength. In order to enrich the children's education, teachers develop cross-curricular links between different subjects. Our Thursday clubs enable pupils to experience a wide range of interests from sailing to sewing.
Small classes, a good staff-pupil ratio and high-calibre, experienced teachers ensure individual attention as well as help for the less able and the more talented. Teachers promote an enthusiasm for learning through praise and encouragement.
Our difference
Unicorn School gets consistently strong academic results without the 'hothouse' approach used by our contemporaries. Children are not prepared for 7+ and 8+ exams, nor are they routinely examined; instead we have on-going assessment in a non-pressurised environment.
In Infant classes, we focus on developing social skills and a love of learning through educational play, as we believe that children whose curiosity is nurtured will thrive in the Junior classes. Unicorn children are well prepared by the time they reach the 11+ stage and they move on to a wide range of senior schools
Unicorn School is also unique as a parent-owned school and a distinctive aspect is the close parental involvement. Parents are encouraged to help the Unicorn community as much as they can: for example with reading, swimming, school trips, taking clubs or acting as a class representative or even a school Governor. It is fun, rewarding and greatly adds to a child’s experience at Unicorn.
Nurturing tomorrow’s adults

Unicorn aims to produce well-balanced, caring and responsible children who show awareness and consideration for the needs of others. We also provide opportunities for them to be involved in the wider community
We educate the adults of the future to be thoughtful and respectful of others, and to be generous and socially adept individuals.
We are a happy, caring, supportive and informal community. Infant and Junior departments are closely integrated and visitors often comment on the warm atmosphere. Why not visit and discover for yourself what makes Unicorn so special?
