School Committee

"There’s always an atmosphere of pleasant endeavour around the school."
- A rep

Being a rep on the School Committee is a great way to get to know others and how the school operates. Each class has at least three class reps. The School Committee meets once a term and is headed by the Chair (invited to take over by the preceding year’s Chair and Mrs Linehan) and the Deputy Chair. A list goes up in the entrance hall at the end of the summer term to sign up as a rep for the following year.

Take a look at our guide to repping to see what's involved. You can also find out about the role of the Chair and Deputy Chair here.

A summary of the term’s minutes is circulated by reps to each family in their class. A set of full minutes is available here.

School activities

The committee organises and runs social, charitable and other day-to-day non-curricular school activities. For example:

  • autumn: wine for parent-teacher meetings, Harvest Festival assembly and distribution of foods, Christmas Fair, juniors’ carol concert, children’s Christmas parties.
  • spring: main fundraising event, Juniors’ disco and AGM evening.
  • summer: Summer Fair.

The committee is also the first point of contact in each class if school needs to contact parents in an emergency.

Fund raising

The committee raises money to help finance school equipment. Also, they support the school’s chosen charities of the term, though this initiative is mainly organised by the teachers and the children.

Reps manage a class kitty to cover teacher presents, parent parties, children’s Christmas parties etc. The sub for Ultra Violet Class is usually higher due to extra expenses incurred for this year.

Social events

A coffee morning for new parents is held at the start of the autumn term, with a tour and a current parent’s commentary on the school. Each new family is allocated an existing Unicorn family from the reps as their ‘buddy’ to help them settle into the school quickly.
