Life in the Infants

Nursery (Red Class)

Nursery is always busy and whatever the children are doing, they are learning! The curriculum is based around seven areas and the most important of these are Personal, Social and Emotional Development, Physical Development and Communication and Language, so the children spend lots of time playing with and chatting to their friends and teachers.

They love to play in the classroom and outside in the garden – construction toys, imaginative play, mark making, dressing up and messy, sensory play. Their teachers also lead some exciting sessions for them to learn together in different ways – singing, listening to stories, developing writing skills, learning phonics and numbers and playing games. Days are always fun in Red Class, with the children being prepared for school – and life!

Life in the Infants

In Reception (Orange Class), we continue following the EYFS (Early Years Foundation Stage) curriculum, and in Years 1 and 2 (Yellow and Green Classes) our learning is shaped by the National Curriculum, but all done, of course, with that special Unicorn touch!

Our emphasis on a creative and holistic approach continues and while core subjects are taught formally and methodically, the enjoyment of learning is prioritised, as are individualised teaching and extra support, with lots of well-qualified and caring staff. There is also plenty of time during the week to explore other learning areas with the opportunity to show and develop particular strengths in art, computing, music, sports including swimming, dance and yoga, occasions for performance and public speaking and school trips.
