Welcome to Unicorn School, a thriving and academically ambitious community, founded in 1970 by a visionary group of local parents and teachers. From the very beginning, the aim was not simply to educate, but to create an environment in which children could flourish intellectually and creatively, developing a genuine love of learning that endures well beyond their prep years.
That founding vision remains at the heart of the school today. Our curriculum is both rigorous and forward-thinking, carefully designed to challenge and inspire. We place a strong emphasis on academic depth and breadth, encouraging pupils to think critically, question confidently and engage with ideas at a meaningful level. Supported by a highly skilled and dedicated staff, each child is individually known and guided to discover their particular strengths, interests and intellectual potential.
At Unicorn, academic excellence sits alongside a deep commitment to character education. We strive to cultivate not only capable learners, but thoughtful, resilient and compassionate individuals. In the Early Years and Infants, we lay firm foundations through a rich, play-informed approach that fosters curiosity, language development and early reasoning skills. As pupils progress into the Juniors, this develops into a more explicit culture of enquiry, supported by disciplines such as philosophy, reasoning and “brain-time”, which nurture analytical thinking and intellectual independence. This balanced and academically ambitious approach is reflected in our excellent outcomes across academic subjects, the arts and sport, and in the wide range of highly regarded senior schools to which our pupils move on.
Unicorn is both successful and vibrant, underpinned by attentive and proactive pastoral care that ensures every child feels secure and valued. As we prepare our pupils for an increasingly complex and fast-changing world, we equip them not only with strong academic foundations, but with the confidence, adaptability and moral integrity they will need to thrive.
I warmly invite you to visit and experience, first-hand, the energy, warmth and magic that is Unicorn School.
