Lunches and snacks

Unicorn School is nut-free.

What snacks will my child have?

A nutritious snack prepared by our chef is provided at morning break for all children, and again at afternoon break for those in the Early Years and Infants. These snacks are freshly made and varied, and may include options such as crudités with hummus, sushi, fruit and seed flapjacks, savoury scones, and cheese with crackers.

Children attending Wraparound Care are also offered a snack during their session. Those taking part in after-school clubs are welcome to bring an additional snack if they wish.

Lunches freshly prepared every day

At Unicorn, we take pride in the quality of our food and the role it plays in supporting children’s wellbeing. Our on-site commercial kitchen enables us to provide freshly prepared meals each day and we work in partnership with the highly regarded catering company, Thomas Franks, to deliver an excellent food provision.

Our dedicated chef, Sergio, leads a skilled kitchen team who prepare nutritious, delicious meals from scratch using high-quality ingredients sourced from trusted suppliers. Everything is cooked fresh on site, ensuring both flavour and nutritional value are at their very best.

Our menus are thoughtfully planned to offer a balanced and varied diet, helping children to develop healthy eating habits while enjoying their food. Each day, there is a main dish alongside a vegetarian option, complemented by a selection of sides. Children can also enjoy a salad bar or pasta option, followed by a dessert and/or fresh fruit, giving them choice while encouraging a well-rounded approach to eating.

Supporting pupils with dietary requirements

Our chef works closely with parents and staff to support pupils with allergies or specific dietary requirements. Through careful ingredient sourcing, thorough allergen training and clear kitchen processes, we ensure all pupils can enjoy safe, nutritious meals. Our kitchen is nut and sesame free.

A typical weekly menu

Lunches are eaten in the school hall and are in separate sittings. A typical weekly menu is as below:

“I love the fact that all the meals are home-made from fresh ingredients. There’s always a varied option and my children eat things they might not have tried before!”
