Volunteer guidelines

As a parent-founded school, Unicorn offers many opportunities for parents to become involved as a volunteer. These include: helping with class activities such as reading and cooking; helping with swimming; assisting on school trips; running school clubs or transporting children to and from events. Parents find this a rewarding experience which also offers the opportunity to see and experience first-hand what their children really get up to! Having volunteers also enhances the children’s experiences in school.

In order to comply with the latest legislation and government guidelines and to ensure the safety of our children during school time, all volunteers need to:

  • undergo a DBS check.  [The process is relatively simple; you will need to supply your passport, together with two utility bills or statements, dated within the last three months.  Your application will be made on-line in your presence]
  • attend a brief volunteer meeting of 10-15 minutes

If you wish to volunteer now, or think that you may wish to do so in the future, please contact Mrs Rodgers in the school office to book a time for the DBS to be done.

Please remember that these checks do not just apply to parents but also to nannies, au-pairs and other family members who may wish to help within the school. Thank you in anticipation for your help.
